The ring of skin at the outer edge of the pudi — actually a second layer of hide laid over the main head, also called chat or chanti. Strokes against it are bright and quick to decay: Na's ringing edge tone and its khali-side counterpart Ta both live here.
Because the kinar is a separate layer, its fit against the main skin matters; a thin strand run between the layers controls buzz. A worn or lifting kinar is a common reason an otherwise healthy head loses its crispness.
