A short closed dayan stroke — typically the index fingertip into the syahi, held — that answers Te in the pairs and clusters: TeRe, Tite, Tirekite. It never stands alone; its function is to alternate with a neighboring closed stroke so fast figures can be fingered without one finger doubling.
Evenness with its partner is everything: TeReTeRe at speed should sound like one machine, not a strong stroke and its echo. Practicing the pair slowly with deliberately equal weight is standard remedial work when rolls sound limping.
