Theka
ClapWave (khali)
Keeping it
Clap on 1. Wave on 5. Nothing structural falls on the other matras.
Structure
A light 4+4 theka whose identity lives in its variations rather than a single fixed form — dozens of keherwa variants exist, all 4+4 with the same tali(1)/khali(5) map. Its swing (a subtle long-short lilt) is what distinguishes it from a mechanical 8-count.
Origins
A semi-classical/light taal drawn from folk practice; the standard accompaniment for bhajan, ghazal, geet and film songs rather than a treatise or dhrupad tala.
