Theka
ClapWave (khali)
Keeping it
Clap on 1, 4 and 11. Wave on 8. Nothing structural falls on the other matras.
Structure
The same 3+4+3+4 frame as Jhoomra, but with open rests ('S') instead of dense fills — that spacing is exactly what produces the swaying, lilting thumri feel. Same skeleton, opposite texture: a clean teaching pair with Jhoomra.
The classic thumri theka. Shares its 3+4+3+4 skeleton with Jhoomra; the open rests ('S') give the swaying, lilting feel thumri leans on. 'Chanchar' (also 'Chochar') is an alternate name for this same tala, not a separate relative.
Origins
The characteristic thumri/semi-classical theka, moderately popular at 14 matras; also known as Chanchar or Chochar (alternate names for this same tala, not a distinct relative). Two prakars are documented: a lighter form used in film/light music and the thumri form treated as the standard.
