Fourteen matras in 3+4+3+4 — claps on 1, 4, and 11, wave on 8. This is thumri's home cycle: the theka's held beats ("Dha Dhin - | Dha Dha Tin -...") give a broad rocking motion that carries semi-classical song at medium-slow tempo.
The uneven 3+4 stride is the character — the cycle leans forward and settles, twice per avartan. Accompanists ornament it with care: thumri wants atmosphere, not display. Jhumra shares the count and even the grouping, but its dense khayal theka belongs to a different setting entirely.
