Sixteen matras, 4+4+4+4, claps on 1, 5, 13 and wave on 9 — structurally Teentaal's twin, but a different tala in practice. Its theka ("Dha Tirekite Dhin Dhin...") is built for slow khayal accompaniment: the Tirekite cluster and long Dhin pairs give the wide beats internal life.
It is chosen when a vocalist wants sixteen-beat gravity at vilambit pace; played fast it loses its point. The comparison with Teentaal is instructive — identical skeleton, different theka, entirely different music.
