A heavy composition in pakhawaj language — open, weighty bols built for power.
A composition built from pakhawaj-derived language: open, ringing strokes laid in broad, weighty patterns rather than tabla's filigree. Parans are declamatory — many derive from dance and older drum repertoire, and Kathak performance still runs on recited and played parans.
On tabla they demand full-handed, resonant nikas and a strong bayan; Benares and Punjab lines, both close to the pakhawaj, are their natural home. Chakradhar parans — the whole composition tripled to land on sam — are standard climax material.
